PALASBARI: Incessant torrential rains on Friday caused significant damage near the Kalahi river bridge along the 17 No. National Highway at Chhaygaon in Kamrup district, leading to the formation of a large pit that has raised serious concerns among commuters and local authorities.

According to local residents and eyewitnesses, the heavy downpour, which began in the early hours of the morning, led to severe soil erosion near the bridge. As a result, a huge pit formed dangerously close to the edge of the highway, posing a potential threat to vehicles travelling through the area. Traffic movement has been partially affected, with authorities advising heavy vehicles to take alternative routes until further notice.

Residents have urged the authorities to take urgent steps to reinforce the bridge structure and improve road maintenance, especially during the monsoon season. They fear that continued rains could further weaken the area, increasing the risk of accidents.
