Assam: Traditional Bodo Khomlainai training camp in Kokrajhar concludes

KOKRAJHAR: The seven-day long special training on Bodo Khomlainai (traditional wrestling) and Bwrai-Buri organized by the Bodoland Indigenous Games Association (BIGA) concluded on Monday at Sinapur in Kokrajhar district highlighting the efforts of the BIGA to protect, preserve and promote the Bodo traditional games which are moving fast towards extinction. The training camp was initiated under the supervision of A Kr Basumatary, Assistant General Secretary of the BIGA, and the training given by Technical Coach Mijink Narzary and his co-referees.

This initiative aims to preserve and promote Khomlainai, a traditional Bodo wrestling form integral to the community’s cultural heritage. As many as 45 children belonging to Bodo and Adivasis took part in the Khomlainai and Bwrai-Buri game. Jerseys to the trainees were given away while certificates to the trainees are to be given next week.

 Established in 2007, BIGA is dedicated to revitalizing indigenous games practiced by the Bodo and other tribal communities. The association has been instrumental in organizing events and training sessions to keep these traditional sports alive. Besides, the BIGA has been organizing Bodoland Indigenous Games every year looking for preservation and promotion of Bodo traditional games. The 14th Bodoland Indigenous Games 2025 will be held on March 21, 22, and 22 at Medaghat in Baksa district where players from beyond BTC districts will also join.
