KOKRAJHAR: In a continuous exit of BPF leaders, ex-MLA and president of Baksa district BPF Hitesh Basumatary has formally joined the UPPL along with 314 members mostly from the youth wing in a grand joining ceremony held at Mushalpur in Baksa district today.

The Chief of BTC and President of UPPL Pramod Boro, Deputy CEM Gabinda Chandra Basumatary, Minister UG Brahma, former Minister Chandan Brahma, former BTC Deputy Chief Kampa Borgoyari, EM Rajesh Brahma, MLA Bhupen Boro, and other senior leaders of the UPPL welcomed and felicitated Hitesh Basumatary and all the new members with Aronai and party skirf.

Chief Executive Member of BTC Pramod Boro, in his speech in the grand joining ceremony, said that the UPPL was formed in 2015 at the initiative of Minister UG Brahma during a difficult time which saw many hardships. The UPPL started its sailing like a small boat looking for a new change in BTC and today this small boat has turned into a giant ship of an ocean, he said, adding that the UPPL became a strong and popular regional political party. He said that the UPPL-led BTR government, working with commitment, has crushed down corruption and brought reformation in the administrative system of BTC. There had been corruption, nepotism, and misrule during the time of Hagrama Mohilary but now, no one has to pay bribes for government jobs. He also said that for a quality educational environment, the Government of BTR has repaired and extended schools, supported colleges and Sujit Narzary Community Halls worth Rs 1 crore each are being constructed in 40 constituencies for public meetings and programmes which were held in the schools. The construction of stadiums in the name of Bir Chilagang Basumatary at a cost of Rs 5 crore are also being done in every assembly constituency, he said, adding that the office of the 420 VCDCs with knowledge centres have been constructed.

Boro said that the people of the region witnessed Boro and OBoro politics in the past which is not a good sign for the society. “The 35 lakh people of BTR are like members of a family where they have to live together, think together, and work together for the development of the region”, he said, adding that those who were elected under the banner of OBoro group for ten years failed to work for the welfare and development of the region. He said that no one will want such divisive politics but the inclusivity of all, development for all.

Ex- MLA Hitesh Basumatary said that he, along with 314 BPF workers, have left the party and joined the UPPL in consultation with former Deputy Chief of BTC Kampa Borgoyari, former Minister Chandan Brahma for the greater interest of united political move to install a stable political party for sustainable development. He also said that there had been a lack of democracy in BPF and Mohilary himself projecting himself as CEM shows his hunger for power.

On February 13 evening, former ABSU general secretary Gautam Mashahary, former ABSU treasurer Joshomanik Brahma and other members joined the UPPL in Kokrajhar. CEM and UPPL President Pramod Boro welcomed and felicitated them.

The continuing exit of BPF leaders and workers has become a setback for the BPF. Most of the senior and efficient leaders of the BPF have deserted the party due to unmatched ideology and lack of shared opinion and decision.
