Assam: Truck Carrying Betel Nut Hijacked In Rangia; Driver And Handyman Attacked
RANGIA: In a disturbing incident, a gang of six individuals hijacked a truck loaded with betel nuts in Assam's Rangia during the early hours of the morning. The attack occurred at around midnight when the miscreants ambushed the vehicle, tying up the driver and handyman before subjecting them to physical assault. The victims were later abandoned in Mandakata after being driven around throughout the night.
Reports indicate that the truck was en route from Guwahati to Maharashtra when it was intercepted near the Bangalikuchi petrol pump on the national highway. The hijackers, arriving in a Swift Dzire car, forced the truck to a halt and quickly overpowered the driver and handyman.
Following the hijacking, two members of the gang took control of the truck and drove it towards Bongaigaon, while the remaining gang members transported the victims in their car. During the ordeal, the assailants physically assaulted the driver and handyman, tying them up and stealing cash and mobile phones from the truck driver.
Days ago, a vehicle transporting betel nuts was hijacked at gunpoint in Bandapara, Boko, by a gang of 6-7 armed criminals on March 10. The assailants looted 48 bags of betel nuts, Rs 62,000 in cash, and two mobile phones, while holding the driver and trader captive before releasing them near the Assam-Meghalaya border. A complaint has been filed, and police are investigating to apprehend the suspects.
