SONAI: Sonai Police successfully apprehended two individuals in a significant anti-drug operation near Dhanheri ONGC, located along the Silchar-Sonai PWD road in Cachar district.
The operation, led by Sonai Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Biswajit Nath, was launched at around 10 PM on Monday, following a tip-off.
Police intercepted a passenger auto-rickshaw in the Dhanahari 1st area and conducted a search, during which they found a large quantity of heroin hidden inside a music system box.
The arrested individuals were identified as Aminur Islam Ahmed, 36, from Shyamcharakuti 3rd Khand, and Mohammad Ali Talukdar, 38, from Khutabagora 1st village, both residents of Dhubri district.
The police seized 175 grams of heroin packed in 14 plastic soap boxes and two mobile phones. The suspects were allegedly smuggling the drugs from Sonai to Silchar using the passenger auto-rickshaw. The arrest has led to a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking in the region.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a major drug bust by Cachar Police under Dholai Police Station. Police intercepted a car in Ramprasadpur and seized 40,000 Yaba tablets and 260 grams of heroin.
Yaba tablets, a combination of methamphetamine and caffeine, are highly addictive. The suspected drug dealer was arrested, and investigations into the larger drug smuggling network are ongoing.
