Assam: Two-Day IRS Training on Earthquake and Fire Disaster Inaugurated in Sonitpur

Tezpur: The two-day “Incident Response System (IRS) Training and Mock Exercise” simulating Earthquake and Fire Disaster, organized by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Sonitpur in collaboration with the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), was inaugurated on Friday at the conference hall of the District Commissioner’s Office, Sonitpur.

The event was inaugurated by District Commissioner Ankur Bharali, who also serves as the chairperson of DDMA, Sonitpur. He was accompanied by Superintendent of Police Barun Purkayastha, District Development Commissioner Lakhinandan Saharia, Additional SP Satokhai Changsan, and ADC-cum-CEO of DDMA Sonitpur Garga Mohan Das. The inaugural session commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp, followed by addresses by dignitaries. Delivering the inaugural speech, DC Ankur Bharali emphasized the importance of the Incident Response System in enhancing disaster preparedness. He encouraged active participation in the two-day training to improve readiness for real disaster situations. SP Barun Purkayastha highlighted the critical role of first responders and the operational section during disaster response activities.

Resource persons from ASDMA, Rajesh Dutta, Engineering Consultant, and Vivek Mahato, DRR Consultant, conducted the day’s training, which included a tabletop exercise to simulate disaster scenarios and response planning.
