MORIGAON: Two road accidents in Assam's Morigaon district claimed two lives and left one person injured, raising concerns over road safety in the region.
In the first accident, two young men identified as Gaurav Bordoloi and Ratan Deuri, died in Katahjari when their tractor flipped into a ditch. They were on their way back from a field. Locals and police quickly helped, but it was hard to recover their bodies.
The second reported incident occurred near the SBI Bank in Morigaon Majmajia, where a dozer truck collided in chain with a dumper, a Tata Harrier, a Baleno and a motorcycle. The crashing caused considerable panic among spectators but was brought under control by Morigaon police.
The police have taken the vehicles involved, and the injured person has been taken to Morigaon Civil Hospital for treatment. The accidents have sparked new calls for stronger road safety rules.
Earlier, a worker succumbed to his injuries after falling from a building at the Dalmia Cement Factory construction site at Umrangso in Assam's Dima Hasao district. The worker who died was identified as Bisanto, a resident of Bagisadubi under Kheroni police station in West Karbi Anglong district.
After the accident, Bisanto was taken to Nagaon Hospital for treatment. He died on the way to the hospital. This incident has raised many questions about the safety measures for workers at the construction site.
This fatality follows a previous safety incident at the same location in August 2024, when six workers suffered injuries from the collapse of a tower crane. The recurrence of such accidents has brought into question the safety measures put in place at the Dalmia Cement construction sites.
