Assam: Two Drug Peddlers With Suspected Heroin Arrested In Sivasagar

SIVASAGAR: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, two drug peddlers were arrested by the Sivasagar police during an anti-narcotics operation at Station Chariali on Friday.

The apprehended individuals have been identified as Bishal Nath, son of Rabin Chandra Nath hailing from Cherekapar Hatimuriya Gaon, and Asif Ahmed, son of Mustafa Alom belonging to Jengonikotia.

The duo were nabbed for possessing suspected heroin weighing 19.79 grams. The illicit substance were concealed in three plastic containers. In addition to the seizure, a TVS motorcycle used in the illegal activity was also confiscated.

Further legal action in this case has been initiated by the police.

Meanwhile, two suspected peddlers were arrested and narcotics valued at over Rs 2.2 crore were seized from them in Assam’s Cachar district, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed. 

The arrests and recovery were made during an operation carried out based on specific information, he said.

“Drugs worth Rs. 2.2 crore recovered by @cacharpolice,” CM Sarma said in a post on X. He said that in a source-based operation carried out at Silcoorie Road in Sildubi under Silchar Police, a vehicle was intercepted.

A total of 415 grams of heroin and Rs 2 lakh in cash were recovered from the vehicle. “Two people have been apprehended in this connection,” the chief minister added, lauding the police force for their efforts against the drug menace.
