TEZPUR: A moment of tension unfolded at the Tezpur Police Reserve on Wednesday night when Lance Naik Bijoy Bora allegedly fired a blank round from his service rifle while on guard duty. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident, police officials confirmed.

Preliminary reports suggest that the rifleman may have been under the influence of alcohol during his shift. Upon receiving information, authorities acted promptly and Bijoy Bora was immediately relieved from duty, subjected to a medical examination, and placed under suspension.

In connection with the lapse, Guard Commander Loknath Basumatary was also suspended. The police department has ordered a thorough inquiry into the incident to determine the circumstances and accountability.
