DHUBRI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assam is experiencing mounting pressure to appoint a new district president for Dhubri, as over a month has passed since the revocation of Prakash Kali’s appointment in December 2024. This prolonged delay has led to speculation and frustration among party workers and supporters, with three prominent candidates emerging for the position: Prakash Kali, Amit Chakravorty, and Biswajeet Roy.
Prakash Kali, a veteran BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker, has been an active party member since his early days. His long grassroots experience and organizational abilities make him a strong candidate. But the sudden move to cancel his appointment has put his political future in doubt.
Amit Chakravorty, who is also a top contender, has more than 20 years of experience with the RSS and BJP. His past positions, such as Dhubri Nagar Prachar Pramukh and Dhubri Zila Prachar Pramukh, have earned him significant backing from those supporting a systematic leadership strategy.
The third candidate, Biswajeet Roy, brings political experience and organizational strength. His influence in the party and the potential to mobilize support render him a strong contender, with his supporters arguing that his leadership has the potential to consolidate the BJP's grip in Dhubri.
The delay in the appointment of a district president has generated introspection over party internal dynamics and the intricacies of local politics in Dhubri, which has a significant Bengali and Rajbongshi population. While the BJP leadership battles it out, the move will have a long-lasting impact on party strategy in the area.
