Assam: Unidentified Body Found In Buridehing River In Margherita, Investigation Underway

TINSUKIA: The body of an unidentified man was found in the Buridehing River near Malung Gaon on Friday 's afternoon. The discovery was made within the Margherita police station jurisdiction in Assam's Tinsukia district. Authorities from the Ledo Police Outpost arrived at the location and retrieved the body.

The body, believed to be that of a man around five feet tall, was found wearing a yellow T-shirt, a grey jacket, and pyjamas. With no identifiable markings, his identity remains unknown. After the recovery, the body was taken to Tinsukia Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The body of the deceased is being stored in the morgue of Tinsukia Civil Hospital. Authorities are actively working to identify the man and determine the circumstances of his death. Anyone with any information is urged to contact the Ledo Police Outpost to aid in the ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, police in Gangtok are investigating the cause of a man's death after he was discovered dead inside his car at the Deorali Taxi Stand on New Year's Day.

In the early hours of January 1, the body of Laku Tshering Sherpa was discovered unconscious in his taxi. After hearing about the discovery from another family member, his brother-in-law, Jonathan Rai, notified the authorities.

Under Section 194 of the BNSS Act, 2023, the police have initiated a formal investigation and filed FIR No. 01/2025. Authorities have released Sherpa's body to his family after conducting a medico-legal autopsy.
