GUWAHATI: In a shocking turn of events, Mahbubul Hoque, the Chancellor of University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), was arrested again today by Dhekiajuli police, just a day after he was granted bail in a previous case.
Hoque, who was lodged in jail following his earlier arrest, was released on bail yesterday. However, before he could regain his freedom completely, the police arrested him once more, raising new questions about the ongoing legal dispute.
However, the exact charges leading to his re-arrest remain unclear, and further details are awaited from the authorities.
Notably, Assam Police had detained Mahbubul Hoque, the Chancellor of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), from his residence in Guwahati’s Ghoramara last month in February.
His detention was carried out by a joint operation involving officers from Panbazar Police and the Special Task Force (STF) of the Assam Police. The arrest has sparked concerns regarding the integrity of the examination system in the university.
Hoque has been arrested in relation to charges of accepting money to allow unfair means in the CBSE Class 12 Physics exam, as per reports.
