KOKRAJHAR: As war tension between India and Pakistan heightens to its peak, a district-level mock drill, called ‘Operation Abhyaas’ was conducted by the Kokrajhar district administration at Kokrajhar Railway Station today at 4:00 PM to simulate air raid and its eventualities by different teams from various stakeholders.
During the mock drill, there were air raid warning sirens, announcements through FLS systems, activation of fire engine sirens, announcement via police patrol vehicles, blackout measures, search and rescue operations, casualty evacuation from the damaged structure of the Railway Station, temporary hospital setup, and evacuation of civilians from endangered areas to a safe place, etc. Besides, training of civilians on civil defence aspects to protect themselves in the event of a ‘hostile attack’ was also part of the drill.
Talking to newsmen, District Commissioner Kokrajhar Masanda Magdalin Pertin said that as per directives of the state government, the district administration conducted the war mock drill to inform people on how to save themselves during the time of war. She said that Civil Defence, Police, Fire & ES, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Health and Power Department, DIPRO, etc. were involved in the Operation Abhyaas. She said that the exercise of this drill aimed to assess and enhance the readiness of civil defence mechanisms in the event of an air raid.
A blackout from 7:00 PM to 7:05 PM was to follow the war mock drill, at the time of filing this report, in the areas at the premises of District Commissioner Office, SP Office, SBI Office to DRDA Office and Circuit House area including north side of Kokrajhar town.
