BISWANATH CHARIALI: Minister for Water Resources, Parliamentary Affairs, Information and Public Relations, Government of Assam, Pijush Hazarika, arrived at Gohpur on Thursday to take stock of the flood situation in Gohpur sub division. Inspecting the crumbling area of North Kekurijan dyke on the Brahmajan River, the dyke of the Chhatrang river and the broken dyk of the Dubia river, Minister Pijush Hazarika said that for the construction of the broken dyke of the Brahmajan river, an expensive scheme will be implemented with a total of 12 km length. More than Rs 50 crore will be allocated again for the construction of the remaining two-and-a-half-km-long guard wall of the Chhatrang river at Gohpur, said Minister Pijush Hazarika adding that tender process for the construction of the dyke at Paken on the banks of the Brahmaputra is under process.

He was accompanied by MLA of Gohpur Utpal Borah, Additional Deputy Commissioner and In-charge Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Biswanath Sub-Division Jay Shivani, Additional Deputy Commissioner and In-charge of Gohpur Sub-Division Lukumani Borah and others.

Minister Pijush Hazarika greeted Lokeshwari Borah and her family on the auspicious occasion of their home entry in Solengi gram panchayat of Gohpur assembly constituency during the visit. He also reached the residence of Sukhman Munda (35), a permanent worker of The Daflagarh Tea Estate, who had embraced his untimely death in the factory of the tea garden and offered his deepest condolences to the bereaved families.

Later, the minister attended a review meeting with the heads of various departments of Biswanath and Gohpur subdivisions. In the meeting held at the conference room of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Gohpur, Minister Pijush Hazarika directed the departments to implement the schemes promptly and focused on cultivation of various varieties of crops, especially in the Agriculture Department, to take strict action against the concerned contractors for the long-pending implementation of the slow work in the public construction department.

The meeting was attended by MLAs Utpal Borah, Ranjit Dutta and Pramod Borthakur, Additional Deputy Commissioner and In-charge Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Biswanath Sub-Division Jay Shibani, Additional Deputy Commissioner and In-charge Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Gohpur Sub-Division Lukumani Borah, Assistant Commissioners, and heads of all departments.
