GUWAHATI: A special event called the Watershed Yatra was held today at the Bhumi Sangrakshan Bhawan in Guwahati. This event is focused on land and water conservation and is organized under the Assam WDC - PMKSY. It was earlier reported that Assam Minister UG Brahma will attend the event as the chief guest.

Meanwhile, a two-day national seminar on ‘Transformative Role of Tribal Women from North East India’ was recently held at Sapatgram College in Dhubri district. The event, sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), aimed to explore the contributions and challenges faced by tribal women in the region.

The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. RP Singh, Principal of Sapatgram College, who stressed the importance of empowering women and supporting future generations.

Prof. Dipak Kumar Roy, Vice-Chancellor of Raiganj University, delivered the keynote address, highlighting the significant progress tribal women have made in self-employment despite living in a traditionally patriarchal society.

Dr. K.K. Roy, Head of the Bengali Department, welcomed the participants, emphasizing the need for collective action for women’s empowerment.

Oekpa Ichamocha Chonu, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management at Bodoland University, spoke on the importance of meaningful research, while Dr. Indira Boro, Head of the Bodo Department, underscored the crucial role of women in preserving their communities' culture and traditions.
