NUMALIGARH: In a tragic incident, a person lost his life in a wild elephant attack in the Bogijan Dapathar area under Marangi mouza in Golaghat district yesterday. The victim, identified as Rajiv Gwala, a resident of Bogijan Dapathar, was attacked by the elephant while collecting vegetables and firewood in the Nambar-Daigrong Reserve Forest.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when Gwala ventured into the forest, and the elephant, seemingly out of nowhere, attacked him, resulting in his death on the spot. This incident is not an isolated one, as the region has witnessed frequent wild elephant attacks, resulting in loss of human lives and property.
The local residents are demanding immediate action from the authorities to prevent such incidents in the future. The forest department has been criticized for its failure to prevent wild elephant attacks in the region. The department has been asked to take immediate measures to prevent such incidents and provide compensation to the families of the victims. The incident has once again highlighted the need for effective measures to prevent human-wildlife conflict in the region. The police, in the presence of forest officials, have recovered the body and sent it to the Sahid Kushal Kunwor Civil Hospital for post-mortem.
