JAGIROAD: A herd of wild elephants entered the construction site of the Tata Semiconductor and Assembly Project, being developed by Tata Electronics in Jagiroad, early this morning.

The elephants reportedly descended from the nearby Sonakuchi Sanctuary in search of food and damaged construction materials and temporary shelters at the site during early hours.

With the help of the Forest Department and local police, the elephants were eventually driven back into the forest.

It is worth mentioning that wild elephants used to frequent the area even during the time of the paper mills. Locals believe the animals are descending from the hills to the plains due to food scarcity in the forests.
