NAGAON: The biennial conference of the Nagaon District Working Journalists' Union was held with a day-long programme at the Nehru Yuva Kendra, Nagaon today here. The conference was attended by prominent journalists and dignitaries, including MLA of Nagaon-Batadroba constituency Rupak Sarma.
The conference began with the hoisting of the flag, followed by a tribute-paying ceremony to the founder president of the Nagaon District Working Journalists' Union Akhil Chandra Das. Dr Sadananda Payeng, Principal of Nagaon ADP College, ceremonially inaugurated the conference and in his inaugural speech, he mentioned that only the journalist community could get the opportunity to study or research the people and society from a close distance.
The conference also featured a discussion session, where journalists shared their views and opinions on various issues.
During the session, a new executive committee for the next two years was formed, with senior scribe Kanak Hazarika as President, and Muruli Baruah and Miju Bora as Vice-President and Bhaskar Jyoti Medhi as the General Secretary, while Jyoti Prasad Bora was elected as the Assistant General Secretary.
The conference also discussed various issues related to journalists, including their security, insurance, and pension. The attendees emphasized the importance of unity among journalists and the need for collective efforts to address their problems.
The conference was attended by several prominent journalists, including Mukut Raj Sarma, Bashistha Dev Phukan, Akhil Kalita, and Hemanta Barman. While addressing the occasion, MLA Rupak Sarma assured his support to the journalists in addressing their problems.
