Assam: Workshop on IPR in Innovation and Academia Held at Nowgong College

NAGAON: Prof. Sashindra Kr Kakoty, a former Deputy Director of IIT-Guwahati, spoke at the two-day National Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in Innovation and Academia, which was held at Nowgong College (Autonomous) on November 27 and 28, 2024, about aligning research with sustainable development goals and focussing on societal benefits rather than personal or institutional recognition. He also highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary approaches to innovation, encouraging researchers to look beyond traditional academic boundaries. Prof Kakoty emphasized the intersection of design, innovation, and research, urging participants to address real-world problems through creative and critical thinking.

The workshop was organized by the IPR Cell of Nowgong College (Autonomous) in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Institution Innovation Cell (IIC), of the college and supported by the Assam Science Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC). The event aimed to deepen the understanding of IPR’s role in fostering creativity and driving sustainable development.

The inaugural session was initiated by Dr Bhuban Chandra Chutia, Coordinator of IQAC & IPR Cell of the college and Dr. Ranjit Mazindar, Principal(i/c) of Nowgong College welcomed the guest and participants. Dr Silpee Talukdar and Dipamoni Baishya, both Project Scientists-I at ASTEC’s Patent Information Center and Dr Juri B Saikia, Research Officer, IPR Cell, Tezpur University acted as resource person in different technical sessions. Dr Manas Pratim Borah, Assistant Coordinator, IPR cell of the college moderated different technical sessions. Over 150 participants, including faculty, research scholars, and students from Nowgong College and other institutions, attended the programme. The inaugural session ended by a vote of thanks offered by Dr. Dinky Mishra, Convener, IIC of the college.
