BARPETA: A district-level multi-stakeholder meeting was recently organised in the conference hall of the SP’s office in Barpeta, to observe the ‘World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.’ It was headed by the District Social Welfare Officer, Barpeta, in the presence of several other officials.
The meeting commenced with a welcome address and sharing of the objectives by the District Mission Coordinator of District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Barpeta. This was followed by presentations by Aishwarya Talukdar, Gender Specialist, DHEW, Barpeta, on the current scenario of human trafficking in Assam. The objectives of the Assam State Policy to Combat Human Trafficking were also discussed along with the workings of the various components of Mission Shakti. Resource person Dr Mukul Kr Sharma, Associate Professor, Bapuji College, provided insights on recent human trafficking cases.
