
KOKRAJHAR: As the World Suicide Prevention Day is observed every year on the 10th of September every year, the District Mental Health Programme, Kokrajhar in collaboration with Gossaigaon College observed the day at Gossaigaon College on Sunday. “Creating Hope through action” is the triennial theme for this day from 2021-2023. This theme serves as a powerful call to action and call that there is an alternative to suicide and that through our actions, we can encourage hope and strengthen prevention. This day aims to focus attention on the issue, reduces stigma and raises awareness among the society.
With this objective the team of District Mental Health Programme, Kokrajhar observed World Suicide Prevention Day at Gossaigaon College in Kokrajhar to bring awareness among the vulnerable people.
In the presence of the Principal of Gossaigaon College KR Basumatary and various senior professors of different departments, a lecture was delivered by the DMHP team composed of Dr. Shruti Sharma, psychiatrist and Dr. Udangshri Basumatary, clinical psychologist. Awareness about suicide, its warning signs and its prevention was imparted to the students of the college as this is the most vulnerable population. In addition, awareness about Tele-Manas was also provided.
