
SILCHAR: In a massive crackdown against drug peddling, Assam Police successfully recovered 98,000 Yaba tablets worth around Rs. 30 crore in Cachar district, and another recovery of suspected heroin in Dhubri. Two people have been arrested in connection with these operations.
The initial operation was conducted at Chandrapur Part II, Kakmara, under the Lakhipur Police Station on the basis of credible information of drug activity in the region. During the operation, the cops detained one suspect and seized the bulk quantity of Yaba tablets along with Rs 3.5 lakh in cash, which hinted towards possible involvement in drug peddling.
In a similar drive, Assam Police raided Jhagrarpar in Dhubri and seized 23.35 grams of suspected heroin from a residential house. On the basis of a tip-off, a team headed by Sub-Inspectors Jyotirmoy Das and Nilim Talukdar raided the residence of Akbar Ali in Part-I area of Jhagrarpar. Ali was apprehended during the raid, and two soap cases filled with suspected heroin were found by the police.
The authorities have confirmed that legal proceedings are already underway, and investigations are ongoing to establish if there may be connections to a larger drug trafficking network.
These operations show the Assam Police's ongoing commitment to countering drug-related activity and improving public safety across the state, with a proactive approach to combating the growing issue of substance abuse and trafficking.
