Assam: Young Woman Commits Suicide In Lakhipur After Obscene Video Leaked By Boyfriend Goes Viral

SILCHAR: A 20-year-old woman from Assam's Cachar district committed suicide following the release of an explicit video of her that was purportedly leaked by her boyfriend.

The incident took place on Wednesday, February 12, in Lalang Part III, Moragang village, within the jurisdiction of the Lakhipur police station in Cachar district.

As per reports, the young woman was shattered with shame when the video went viral on Tuesday night. Her relatives informed the police immediately after discovering her hanging body in the bathroom on Wednesday morning.

Following a preliminary investigation, Lakhipur police took the deceased to Silchar Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem. That same evening, her funeral took place.

The accused, Shahid Afridi Mazumder, a youth from Singerband who is currently employed in Saudi Arabia, had a complaint filed against him by the deceased's mother after the incident.

According to the victim's family, he shared the footage using a Saudi phone number. Her father claims that his daughter was compelled to take the drastic step due to the widely shared video.

A cousin of the deceased revealed that Shahid had reached out to him to warn about a potential suicide attempt by the victim and asked him to go and check on her. He added that he tried to contact her and her friends but could not reach them. By the time he could make it to her home, she was already gone.

Locals and family members have called on the district police to arrest the culprit and extradite him in accordance with Indian law.
