Assam: Youth Parliament organized in Sivasagar to strengthen democratic values

In an effort to strengthen the roots of democracy, instil discipline and familiarize students with parliamentary procedures, Assam Govt launches 'Youth Parliament' to promote awareness.

SIVASAGAR: In an effort to strengthen the roots of democracy, instil discipline, encourage tolerance for diverse opinions and familiarize students with parliamentary procedures, the Assam Government’s Parliamentary Affairs Department has launched an initiative called ‘Youth Parliament’. This programme aims to engage young minds in constructive and insightful discussions on significant national and global issues while fostering leadership and public speaking skills among the youth.                         

With these objectives in mind, the Youth Parliament event was organized at the auditorium of Sibsagar Commerce College under the initiative of the Sivasagar District Administration and with the support of the Education Department.                          

The event was inaugurated by Sivasagar District Development Commissioner Samiran Bora, who, in his opening speech, elaborated on the significance of the Youth Parliament and encouraged students to participate actively and make the most of the opportunity. Other distinguished guests present at the event included Additional District Commissioner (Education) Meenakshi Parmey, Assistant Commissioner Ganesh Chandra Baro, and Inspector of Schools Devajyoti Gogoi.     

Eminent academicians and experts also contributed to the success of the programme as resource persons and observers. Among them were Dr Birinchi Kumar Bora, Principal of HCDG College, Nitaipukhuri, Dr Rekha Borthakur, Associate Professor of Political Science at Sibsagar University, Dr Paban Gogoi, Associate Professor of Political Science at Gargaon College, and Brojen Bora, retired Headmaster of Lakhimi Nagar ME School, Sivasagar.
