Pathsala: In a remarkable and heartfelt gesture, a youth from Patsharakuchi has drawn widespread attention and praise by paying tribute to his late father in a unique way on his fifth death anniversary.

Nitul Sharma, a socially conscious individual and Senior Inspector in the Department of Food, Public Distribution & Consumer Affairs, released 10 kilogram, nearly 1,000 fingerlings of Rohu, Bhakuwa, and Common Carp, into the Kaldia River as a tribute to his father, who had always advocated for the protection of nature.

The fish were released at the Durga idol immersion ghat near the Shiva Durga Dham area of the river. Sharma was accompanied by his family, including his wife Munmi Goswami, sister-in-law Arundhati Devi, Rimpi Sharma, niece Himasmita Sharma, and family friend Owaz Ali. The act was also supported and witnessed by journalist and Assam Science Society award-winning science activist Aminul Haque.

Sharma explained that while most people exploit river life through indiscriminate fishing, he chose this unconventional method to promote conservation and honour his father’s ideals. The community has warmly appreciated his meaningful tribute.
