GUWAHATI: Samiul Haque, the 22-year-old youth who was critically injured in a hit-and-run accident on July 26 in the Dakhingaon area of Guwahati, tragically passed away on July 29 at Apollo Hospital. Haque had sustained severe head trauma and multiple fractures after allegedly being struck by a speeding vehicle, reportedly driven by Assamese actress Nandini Kashyap.

The young man, who had joined the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) just hours earlier as a temporary worker, was on duty installing streetlights when the incident occurred. Samiul was later shifted to Apollo Hospital for advanced care after being admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). Despite doctors’ efforts, he succumbed to his injuries early Tuesday morning.

According to eyewitnesses and family members, Nandini Kashyap fled the scene immediately after the accident and took shelter in a nearby apartment in Kahilipara. A video that has gone viral on social media shows Kashyap in a heated exchange with locals, further fuelling public outrage.

Following public pressure, Kashyap appeared before the Dispur Police on Monday after being summoned. While denying some of the allegations, she assured authorities of her cooperation in the ongoing investigation. Police have since seized the vehicle allegedly involved in the crash.

Officials confirmed that further action will be taken based on the forensic analysis and witness statements. The case has sparked renewed debate around road safety and accountability, especially involving high-profile individuals.
