
GUWAHATI: The Assamese short film Ansuni Chinkhe made a big impact at the 17th Jaipur International Film Festival (JIFF), held from January 17 to 21, 2025.
Written and directed by Dr. Parthasarathi Mahanta, and produced by Mina Mahanta and Indrani Baruah, the film was screened under the Worldwood International Panorama category as part of the international competition. It received critical acclaim for its storytelling and performances.
Dr. Partha Sarathi Mahanta, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, received the Best Director award for his film Ansuni Chinkhe, while Seema Biswas won the Best Actress award for her performance in the film at the 17th Jaipur International Film Festival.
The 17th Jaipur International Film Festival (JIFF), the biggest non-government film festival in India, received a record 2,408 entries from 88 countries, highlighting its worldwide popularity.
Meanwhile, earlier last month, Arunachal Pradesh's Shi-Yomi district’s native and versatile artist Janeth Pinggam made waves in the film industry with her debut feature, NUMB, which was nominated for the 17th Jaipur International Film Festival (JIFF)-2025. Jaipur hosted the prestigious event from January 17 to 21.
The selection of NUMB in the short story category represented a noteworthy early career accomplishment for Pinggam. The festival's jury, which consisted of 30 individuals from 12 nations, evaluated 1,651 entries from 77 countries over the course of a demanding three-month procedure before making the final selection.
