Assam's Ace Archer Gohela Boro to be Sent to AIIMS, New Delhi for Treatment

Kokrajhar: Ace Assam archer Gohela Boro would be soon sent to AIIMS, New Delhi for better treatment, Arup Kumar Dey, Executive Member of Bodoland Territorial Council said on Monday, June 7 after visiting Gohela at the Rupnath Brahma Civil Hospital in Kokrajhar where she is undergoing treatment for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), a rare auto-immune disease.

Speaking to the media, Dey lamented the fact that despite having won gold medal at the Kerala National Games, 2015 and a total of 77 medals at the national, district and state level, Gohela has received no financial aid or a government job like Hima Das who has been appointed as DSP in Assam Police.

He assured all help for the proper treatment of Gohela.

"Within the next few days, arrangements will be made to fly Ms Boro to New Delhi for her treatment at AIIMS. There is no proper treatment for her ailment here. It is due to her humble financial background that she has not been able to go for better treatment," Dey said.

He further said that once she returns from New Delhi, Dey would ensure that she gets a job or some financial assistance.

Mentioning about the healthcare facilities in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Dey said that he and his department would work towards the development, progress and betterment of the health system in all the four BTR districts of Kokrajhar, Baksa, Chirang and Udalguri.

He said that all general wards and cabins of civil hospitals in all the 4 BTR districts would be fitted with ACs so that the poor who come for treatment get better facilities. He also said that all the hospital buildings would be cleaned.

Gohela was once earlier admitted at AIIMS, New Delhi but her mother, a street vendor, and father, a daily wage labourer could not afford to continue her treatment in New Delhi. It has been over two years that Gohela is suffering from this crippling illness that has turned her toes into stumps.
