GUWAHATI: One of Assam's brightest sporting talents, ace sprinter Hima Das, on Friday was admitted to a private hospital in Guwahati's Khanapara area due to health-related issues. Doctors said Das was suffering from cough and fever.

Popularly known as the 'Dhing Express,' the state's sporting fraternity breathed a sigh of relief after hospital director Parag Dutta assured that there was no cause for concern as Das's condition remained stable.

However, the doctors have decided to keep her under observation for precautionary reasons. Das has been admitted in the high dependency unit (HDU) under the supervision of Dr. Bhavani Prasad Chakrabarty.

A team of specialist doctors are also closely monitoring her condition and providing necessary medical care. "We are investigating the matter. Once we get to the crux of the problem, we will proceed further," Dutta said.

The director further said that Das had travelled to Guwahati from Mumbai, arriving on Friday afternoon. Shortly after her arrival, she began to feel weak and decided to seek medical attention without any delay, reaching the hospital around 5 pm.

"Upon her admission, the medical team assessed her condition and provided immediate first aid. After stabilizing her, it was concluded that she required closer monitoring, and subsequently she was transferred to the HDU for specialized care," he added.
