TINSUKIA: In a significant step towards addressing youth substance abuse in Assam, IndianOil’s Digboi Refinery, in collaboration with the Tinsukia District Administration and the Forum for Integrated Sustainable Solutions (FISS), has inaugurated the state’s first de-addiction centre dedicated exclusively to boys aged 10 to 18 years.

The centre, launched under IndianOil’s CSR initiative Project #IndianOilAarohan, aims to provide comprehensive treatment, rehabilitation, and counselling to adolescents battling drug and substance addiction. The facility located in Tinsukia is a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to combat the growing menace of drug abuse among the youth.

As the first of its kind in the state, the centre under Project Aarohan is expected to serve as a model for similar initiatives across the region, reinforcing the role of public-private partnerships in addressing pressing social issues.

Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Governor KT Parnaik inaugurated the counselling hall and isolation room of the Charju De-Addiction Centre earlier in February, an initiative by the Care Me Home Welfare Society (CMHWS). The governor was accompanied by CMHWS chairperson Sontung Lowang Bangsia and social activist Tai Tagak, who took the governor around the centre and presented the NGO's ongoing activities.

Governor Parnaik, in his speech, highlighted the need to assist those suffering from addiction, calling it a noble cause. He welcomed the initiatives of the CMHWS towards making society healthier and raised concern over the prevalence of high drug addiction among the youth, blaming it on the activities of drug peddlers.
