KAZIRANGA: Kaziranga National Park in Assam is experiencing an unprecedented surge in tourist footfall, setting new records this season.

The boost in tourism is largely attributed to the recent Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment Summit initiated by the state government led by Himanta Biswa Sarma, which has played a pivotal role in promoting the world-famous wildlife sanctuary.

According to Kaziranga National Park Director Sonali Ghosh, the park has already recorded around 2.65 lakh visitors in recent months, with the number expected to surpass last year’s total of 3 lakh tourists. She expressed confidence that the park would achieve a record-breaking turnout by the end of the season.

In the past ten days alone, a notable spike in tourist arrivals has been observed, further enhancing Kaziranga’s growing popularity. Over the last five months, the park welcomed over 2 lakh tourists, including approximately 11,000 foreign visitors. With two and a half months remaining in the current tourist season, officials are optimistic about setting new benchmarks.

Kaziranga’s rich biodiversity and successful conservation stories continue to captivate nature enthusiasts globally, reaffirming its position as one of India’s premier wildlife destinations.

Meanwhile, reports from January stated that Assam's Kaziranga National Park (KNP) welcomed a record 1,64,636 visitors across its four ranges since its reopening in October 2024, marking the highest tourist influx in the past 20 years, according to officials.

The park generated a revenue of Rs 43,226,225 from entry fees, highlighting its increasing popularity and the success of recent initiatives, the official noted. Typically, the park remained open from October to May and then took a break during the monsoon season.
