THAILAND: In a significant achievement for Assam and the Northeast, ace shotgun shooter Kundanraj Borgohain clinched the silver medal in the Men’s Individual Olympic Trap event at the prestigious Thailand Championship 2025.

The final witnessed a tense tie-breaker, with Borgohain narrowly missing the gold. However, his sharp precision and composed performance under pressure earned him a well-deserved silver on the international podium.

Borgohain, hailing from Assam, his journey to the top has been one of grit, perseverance, and self-sacrifice. With limited training infrastructure and access to world-class ammunition in his home state, Borgohain took it upon himself to train outside Assam and even abroad, investing personal time, resources, and finances to stay competitive.

In addition to his achievements, Borgohain has been a mentor and inspiration for budding shotgun shooters in the region. He actively trains and motivates young talents from Assam and the Northeast, hoping to build a strong pipeline for the sport.

“This medal is proof of what’s possible with hard work. But with even basic support from the state, infrastructure, ammunition, and systems, Assam can produce many more champions. The potential is huge,” Borgohain said after achieving the medal.

Borgohain’s silver is not just a medal; it’s a statement. A call to action for authorities and stakeholders to invest in the region’s untapped sporting talent and create a robust ecosystem for future champions.
