GUWAHATI: In an attempt to set new Guinness World Record on 'Longest Marathon Playing Mandolin', Kuntal Raj Chakrabarty, a member of Brahmaputra Mandolins (state-wide platform of mandolin players & lovers), has successfully achieved the targeted timeline of 48 hours at 8:00 p.m. on 2nd February, 2025 in Guwahati, Assam and continued playing for additional hours till midnight for break- time compensation.

The challenging event was organized by local Vyatikram Group in association with Bharatiya Associates at the Geetanagar High School playground, Guwahati, Assam on 31st January, 2025 from 8:00 p.m. onwards.

Earlier in 2017, Chakrabarty had set the world record in this field by playing mandolin continuously for 26 hours 41 minutes. This record was broken by Stephen Oliver (USA) in Greenville, South Carolina, USA, with a mandolin marathon of 27 hr 8 min 33 sec on 17-18 December 2022.

Thereafter, Chakrabarty had embarked on another endeavour to break the record of Stephen Oliver and successfully completed the target of 36 hours in the recent past pending official announcement. With the completion of the present mandolin marathon of 48 hours, Chakrabarty, a rare- talent in mandolin, has succeeded in setting a record which could amply be expected to remain unbroken for long.
