LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur District Library and its auditorium, located in North Lakhimpur town will be modernized with addition of new facilities for the greater interest of the readers' community as well as people of the district. For this reason, a fund amounting to rupees around 5 crore, under the scheme titled 'Modernization of District Library at North Lakhimpur Under Comprehensive Infrastructure Development Fund (CIDF) for the Year 2021-22 has been granted.
In this connection, Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur, Sumit Sattawan, while contacted, informed this correspondent that the floors of the library building including the auditorium would be reconstructed with tiles work. Moreover, the stage will be reconstructed and made air-conditioned. Chairs of the auditorium will be changed with new ones. An art gallery will also be set up and the whole building will be beautified," the Deputy Commissioner added.
Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka has already instructed the designated contractor to leave no stone unturned to ensure the well implementation of the project. The construction work under the scheme will start soon.
On the other hand, the Deputy Commissioner, by serving an order, has restricted the public use of the library premises for one year to ensure smooth execution of the construction-cum-renovation works to be carried out while implementing the scheme. The order has been enforced in pursuance of a letter vide No. NAD/DoHUA/30/2021-22/375 dtd. 04-11-2022, issued by the Executive Engineer, North Assam Division, Tezpur, Department of Housing & Urban Affairs and for the safety of men and machinery until the completion of the construction works.
