Earlier, A section of encroachers, after their eviction from Gorukhuti on September 20 and September 23, are allegedly trying to encroach upon the land of Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve (ONPTR). The staff of ONPTR in their routine patrolling duty in the vast sar areas of River Brahmaputra on the southern boundary of the Park, noticed a group of 10 families constructing dwelling houses, thereby encroaching the Park land.
As per the immediate instruction of the Divisional Forest Officer of Mangaldai Wildlife Division, Pradipta Baruah, the staff of the Park demolished the thatched dwelling houses and drove them out from the Park areas. The encroachers tried to occupy the Park land at Sani Sar and Rongai Sar.
Been carrying out intensified patrolling even on foot in the sar areas under the jurisdiction of the Park. The matter has already been informed to the government, district administration and police. However, our staff has been successful in driving them out from the Park area, that too without facing any resistance from the encroachers," added DFO Pradipta Barua.
