DHUBRI: In the era of digital connectivity, the Tisterpar post office which is located just a kilometer from the India-Bangladesh border, remains an essential lifeline for the region’s farming communities, which make up nearly 90% of the population.
Despite modern technology, people of the area still rely on the post office for important documents. The post office was established 30 years ago and it plays an important role in delivering ATM cards, PAN cards, Aadhaar cards, and government papers to remote border villages.
The post office serves villages across Durahati and Gaspara panchayats, including Tisterpar Part I & II, Durahati, Gaspara, Shingimari Part I & II, Aranya Gaon, Ghewmari, Kumargati, and Dubirpar. It ensures official documents reach residents, with letters and documents passing through Dhubri’s head post office and Dharamsala before arriving in Tisterpar.
The dedication of postal workers has gained the community’s trust. Mohammed Ali Sheikh, the branch postmaster since 1992, is proud of the post office’s lasting importance. “Even in the digital era, this post office remains a pillar of support for the villagers. We are committed to delivering essential services,” he stated.
Afrin Pradhani, a rural postal worker, has a key role in keeping things running smoothly. Local resident Habibar Rahman stated, “It is more than just a place for letters and documents; it symbolizes the resilience and unity of our community.”
