HOWRAGHAT: The Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) has demanded withdrawal of interim notification of new Land Policy 2023 recently notified by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).

The regional party has also demanded roll back of the enhanced land settlement premium and rate of land revenue, and hold back implementation of the Mission Basundhara-2 in Karbi Anglong autonomous region. The party has demanded discontinuation of issuing land patta to non-tribal communities. In this respect the party has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council on Wednesday.

The memo mentioned that the subject of Land Settlement and Land Revenue Department is the inherent subject of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council since the year 1952, but the council authority have failed to adopt any radical reforms policy on the Land Settlement Premium and Rate of Land Revenue. ‘Privatization of land is the central rule of land alienation’ and the council has only individual bases land laws that encourage registration of private lands. The party has demanded a community owned land registration system.
