Awareness meeting on millet farming held at Madhya Kaziranga Gram Panchayat

GOLAGHAT: An awareness meeting was held at Madhya Kaziranga Gram Panchayat on Thursday under the initiative of Assam Millet Mission of Golaghat District Agriculture Department. In line with the international millet year, an awareness meeting on the theme of farmers was held in Assam today.

Diganta Bora, president of Madhya Kaziranga Gram Panchayat, presided over the open meeting on millet farming. District Agriculture Officer Ranjit Sharma delivered the welcome address. He addressed the farmers in his speech on the objectives of Assam Millet Mission, merits of millets, business benefits, etc.

This was followed by a workshop on millet farming. Subdivisional Agriculture Officer, Bokakhat, Suruj Saikia addressed the farmers on the quality of millets, water requirements, nutrition, sustainable future, millet as climate friendly agriculture etc. In addition, training was imparted on the scientific application of various chemical fertilizers in the field of agriculture. In today’s awareness meeting, District Nodal Officer, Assam Millet Mission and Senior Agricultural Development Officer Shantanu Dutta addressed the farmers on the health benefits of millet. About 200 farmers participated in the awareness meeting.
