

TINSUKIA: A 3-day awareness-cum-sensitization programme on financial literacy for tea garden workers and employees got underway in tea belts in Tinsukia district. The event organized by Assam Tea Employees Provident Fund Organisation (ATEPFO), Tinsukia Zonal Office in collaboration with State Bank of India will also deliberate on various schemes of ATEPFO designed to uplift socio-economic status of tea workers. More than 200 workers and employees from 30 tea gardens attended the Tinsukia circle programme that was held on Monday at TDA Cultural Complex auditorium.
In his welcome address Mridul Hussain, assistant PF Commissioner ATEPFO Tinsukia circle said that though various schemes to benefit tea garden workers existed since few decades, the tea workers were not aware of and genuine beneficiaries were deprived. There was lack of coordination among the various stakeholders. To bridge the gap and to make garden workers/ employees more accessible to ATEPFO, this awareness programme has been initiated, Hussain informed. Someswa Barhoi, Deputy PF Commissioner of ATEPFO Guwahati, Assam deliberated in detail on various schemes like PF Scheme 1955, Pension Scheme 1967, Family Pension 1972, Deposit Linked Insurance Scheme (DLI) 1984 and Gratuity 2017.
The meeting was addressed by Rupesh Guwala, Member Board of Trustees & MLA Doomdooma, Surojit Das secretary-cum-PF commissioner ATEPFO Guwahati Assam, Raju Sahu secretary ACMS Panitola branch, Siba Das, chief manager SBI Regional Business Office Tinsukia among others. Moniram Gogoi and Jay Chandra Saikia, president and secretary of ACKS Panitola circle, were also present. Siba Das called upon the tea workers not to involve ‘dalals’ in any monetary transaction and to approach bank directly.
Similar awareness programme are being arranged at Margherita and Doomdooma. While Margherita Circle programme will be held at India Club on May 9, the Doomdooma Circle programme will be held at ACMS Hall on May 10 informed Mridul Hussain, assistant PF Commissioner ATEPFO Tinsukia circle.
