Awareness & training programme on disaster management in Biswanath

Biswanath Chariali: Biswanath District Disaster Management Authority carried out a series of training camps and awareness programmes during the last couple of weeks.

The first such programme on school safety management was organized in the auditorium of State Institute for Panchayat and Rural Development on November 6 and November 7. Around 50 headmasters of selected schools of Biswanath district were imparted training in the programme on school disaster management planning and preparation and school safety guidelines. Abhimanyu Dutta of DIET, Dr Ratnakinkar Goswami of Biswanath College of Agriculture, Project Officer of Biswanath District Disaster Management Authority, Bhargav Baruah and a team of Biswanath Chariali Fire Service Station imparted training to them.

Similarly, District Disaster Management Authority, Biswanath, in collaboration with Assam State Disaster Management Authority, organized a special awareness drive on children’s safety at the Residential Special Training Centre, Soteea. Assistant Deputy Controller, Civil Defense, Sonitpur and AAPDA MITRA volunteers demonstrated various safety tips to the children to minimize risk during emergency. More than 300 children from three different schools were present in the awareness drive.

The awareness drive was followed by art and extempore speech competition among the children of Soteea Abhyakhan Normal MES, Normal LPS and Residential Special Training Centre on Disaster and Road Safety where first aid box and flash lights were presented to the awardees.

On the other hand, a three-day long programme was held for the police personnel from November 15 to November 17 on the role of police personnel during the time of emergency and accidents in which 30 police personnel of the district took part. They were imparted training by Deepak Kumar Medhi of Civil Defense and Jayanta Sharma of Red Cross Society.
