LAKHIMPUR: Lifetime member of Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX), poet Robin Phukan breathed his last on Tuesday evening at Aditya Nursing Home of Dibrugarh. He was the permanent resident of Pahumuriya Bakal Gaon under Panigaon Police Station of Lakhimpur district. He was the science teacher at Pub Telahi High School, located at Khaga under the district. Notably, Robin Phukan met with a tragic accident on April 16 while he was going to his rented house in North Lakhimpur town from his village home. Due to the accident, he sustained serious injuries and then he was admitted to Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital. Later he was shifted to Aditya Nursing Home of Dibrugarh where he breathed his last. He was 58.

Robin Phukan was a prominent activist of Assam Anti-Foreigners Movement. An utmost sense of social responsibility has been manifested through his poems, which were published in various magazines and periodicals published from Guwahati, North Lakhimpur and other places of the State. 'Belir Khoje Khoje' is the published anthology of his poems. He was also known as an artiste. He showcased his talent as an actor who played various roles in the staging of Raax, theatres organized at Panigaon Pragati Sangha. He was actively involved with Telahi-Kamalaboria Anchalik Sakha Xahitya Xabha.

His demise has cast a pall of grief in Panigaon area. His body was taken to Pub Telahi High School, where the students paid the last homage to their favourite teacher by organizing a Shradhanjali programme. In the programme, the academic and administrative staff of the school, parents of the students former presidents, existing president and other members of Telahi-Kamalaboria Sakha Xahitya Xabha, members of Telahi-Kamalaboria Anchalik Sajagata Krira Santha paid him the last homage. Panigaon Pragati Sangha also expressed grief at his demise. He is survived by his wife and a son along with a host of relatives.
