DOOMDOOMA: Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) President Dr Basanta Goswami, in his novel attempt to visit its Zila Xahitya Xabhas and different branches under it clusterwise, paid a visit to Tinsukia District today.
After having a meeting at Jugal Kishore Keshan Zila Xahitya Xabha Bhavan, Makum in Tinsukia District, he came straightway to Doomdooma in the afternoon to meet the office-bearers of seven Sakha Xahitya Xabhas under it at Rupai Satodal Sakha Xahitya Xabha (RSSXX)’s Saurabh Kala Parishad Auditorium.
In the meeting presided over by Lambeswar Chetia, President, Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha (TZXX), and anchored by Secretary, RSSXX Ratul Gogoi, he was warmly received and offered felicitations by more than 30 socio-cultural organizations of the area. On behalf of RRSSXX, poet Indu Dutta Uzir read out the felicitation address while President Benu Bora welcomed the guests. Earlier, President Dr Goswami inaugurated the library room of RSSXX and a wall magazine published on the occasion.
In his address, President Dr Goswami significantly said that it would be his endeavour to revive the old glory of AXX and make it free from all sorts of controversies that badly tarnished its image during the last decade. He also said that he would see to it that AXX does not have to suffer from financial irregularities in future. For that, he would earnestly dedicate himself to make the Sabha self-reliant by enhancing its membership strength, he said.
On the issue of the deficiency of Assamese people in not being able to read and write their mother tongue Assamese language correctly, he empathetically said that in this regard also he would take some effective measures to tide over the crisis.
Significantly, in response to the call of the AXX President to enrol at least 10 new Life Members by each one of its branches during his visit to different Zila Xahitya Xabhas all over Assam, more than two hundred life members got themselves enrolled in Tinsukia District, as declared by Sunil Gurung, Organising SECRETARY, AXX.
It may be recalled that Dr Goswami served twice as the secretary of AXX besides shouldering different responsibilities of the Sabha in the past and is quite familiar with its functioning.
Immediately after the meeting, President Dr Goswami proceeded to attend the weeklong Kakapather Book Fair organized under the aegis of Kakapather Press Club from March 15. From there, he proceeded to Bordumsa to attend a harmony meet organized with the purpose of strengthening the bond of friendship between the people of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
