SILCHAR: Corona 19 second wave has turned most fatal than its first wave. The increasing numbers of positive and active cases and the resultant deaths have cast a gloom of despair in the country. But, handsome and healthy baby born to a Corona patient on Monday in the far off corner of the border town of Karimganj in northeast and the mother fighting back the virus to get well to be back home is no doubt a message of hope. The doctors, nurses and the health workers of Karimganj Covid Hospital have earned applaud from people in general. An elated Deputy Commissioner shared the photo of mother and the baby on his face book.

But, all is not well with the overall Corona pandemic in the district. With 150 cases out of 3385 tested turning out to be positive on Monday has caused anxiety in the health department. This has upped up the total corona patients to 757. However, 121 recovered patients have been discharged. One of the primary factors behind the spread of Corona is the flagrant violation of guidelines. AIIMS has stated 50% people flout them, knowing fully its fatal fall out.

The state and the district administration are leaving no stone unturned to control the dreaded disease. Such efforts fall flat if people behave irresponsibly. The owners and managements of some private schools are not only holding classes but also test examinations in the rural belts of Karimganj district. All educational institutions are closed. One such school Netaji Vidya Bhawan at Kaliganj 16 km from Karimganj was found open and its owner Hossain Ahmed looked nonchalant. He not only holds regular classes but also examinations of primary to high school, risking the life of children.

No student was with mask, leave aside social distance. The students are directed to come to school without school dress to hide the identity of their institution. There is no arrangement for online study. All goes on just for money. A teacher on duty when asked how could examination be conducted? Her reply, "Ask the owner-headmaster?
