Baksa Deputy Commissioner Bhaskar Pegu Inaugurated Stitching Centre

Baksa: The Deputy Commissioner of Baksa Bhaskar Pegu on Wednesday inaugurated a tailoring/stitching centre supported by the State Bank of India Foundation, Mumbai, under its flagship project SBI Gram Seva implemented by the Assam Centre for Rural Development (ACRD), an NGO working on developmental issues in Assam, stated a press release.

The tailoring centre, SBI-Prerna has been set-up to provide training to the backward and poor women in the district, so that they can earn a livelihood and become self-sufficient.

“This is a very good initiative and the women in this region will benefit greatly from the stitching centre,” said Bhaskar Pegu, Deputy Commissioner of Baksa. On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, he also spoke at length on the ban on single-use plastics, and urged everyone to ensure the ban is adhered to by the people in the community. Under the SBI Gram Seva project, more than 100 women have been given tailoring training in the district so far, and many are now stitching clothes and earning a livelihood. “SBI-Prerna will serve as platform for the women to utilize their skills and become empowered, besides serving as an inspiration to more women to come forward and do something on their own,” said Nawajyoti Sharma, Advisor, ACRD.
