Banikanta Kakati Merit Award distributed in Lakhimpur district
The distribution programme of Banikanta Kakati Merit Awards among the meritorious students of Lakhimpur district was inaugurated on Saturday.

LAKHIMPUR: The distribution programme of Banikanta Kakati Merit Awards among the meritorious students of Lakhimpur district was inaugurated on Saturday. Scooties were given away to students under Pragyan Bharati Scooty Scheme, which was launched by the Government of Assam.
This year the initiative was launched in the district by Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah and Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka on Saturday. In this connection, a ceremonial programme was organized at Tyag Kshetra of North Lakhimpur town. It began with the welcome address delivered by Dr. Suresh Kumar Dutta, the Principal of Panigaon OPD College. Addressing the winners of the award, Deputy Commissioner Sumit Kumar Sattawan congratulated them and asked them to use the scooty carefully and judiciously. He also advised them to ride the scooty by strictly adhering to the traffic rules.
On the other hand, MP Pradan Baruah asked the students to work hard and not to surrender before any adverse situations and conditions. He laid stress on setting up digital classroom in every college and called upon the principals to initiate steps for the same.
MLA Manab Deka also delivered lecture encouraging the students and asked them to leave no stone unturned in order to achieve unique success in life. The function was attended by District Development Commissioner Manoj Kumar Baruah, North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) Principal Dr. Biman Chandra Chetia, Lakhimpur Girls' College Principal Dr. Surajit Bhuyan along with other dignitaries. In Lakhimpur district, a total of 1483 students have qualified for receiving the scooties as the award for their merit. Out of them, 1212 are girls while 271 are boys.
