BARPETA: A mock drill was successfully held today at the Chawlkhowa riverbank, near the District Commissioner’s Office, Barpeta, and Circuit House. Conducted under ADC and CEO, DDMA, the exercise included flood rescue operations and a simulated building collapse scenario.
The District Commissioner of Barpeta assessed the operations and emphasized the importance of disaster preparedness. The ADC stressed the necessity of preventive measures, asserting, “Mock exercises are vital for equipping teams to handle floods effectively, as prevention is better than cure.”
The drill involved key stakeholders and line departments. A designated relief camp at Barpeta Nursery Cum Primary School provided essential facilities such as health services, breastfeeding corners, child-friendly spaces, and clean water.
Organized by the NDMA and ASDMA, this exercise is part of a series across ten districts of Assam. A follow-up briefing session was held online in the afternoon. The stakeholders had earlier participated in a tabletop exercise on Tuesday.
