NAGAON: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked between Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) and Nowgong College (Autonomous) in a ceremonial function held at conference hall of BBCI, Guwahati on Thursday.

The MoU was signed by director of BBCI, Dr. Amal Chandra Kataki and Dr. Sarat Borkataki, principal, Nowgong College (Autonomous) in presence of deputy director, Research, prof. Mouchumee Bhattacharjee, deputy director, academic, prof. Debabrata Barman, prof. Anupom Sarma, other senior professors and officers of BBCI; Dr Farishta Yasmin, member secretary, academic council, Dr. L. M. Goswami, Head, Department of Zoology and Dr. B. C. Chutia, coordinator, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Nowgong College ( Autonomous). Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Amal Chandra Kataki, director of BBCI, expressed his concern over working for the society together with Nowgong College. Both the institutions agreed to work together as a part of socio-educational responsibility and cancer awareness programmes in Nagaon.

Cancer mass awareness and screening campaigns can be prioritised in adopted villages and other communities. This would help to reduce number of rising cancer cases and drug abuse challenges in Nagaon and adjacent districts involving students.

Dr. Kataki insisted on to open diploma/certificate courses in paliative care, psycho oncology, which can benefit the society directly. Tobacco cessation programmes among students will be carried out jointly by BBCI and NC (A).

Dr. Sarat Borkataki, principal, NC(A) congratulated the entire BBCI family for their service to the people of the region for the last 50 years. He suggested to work as per NEP 2020 guidelines to develop need based courses jointly by BBCI and NC(A).
