BISWANATH CHARIALI: A good number of social organizations of Bedeti in Biswanath district have raised a charter of demands for the development of greater Bedeti area. The organizations including Pub Behali Anchalik AASU, Bedeti Anchalik Unnayan Samiti, Behali Small Tea Growers' Association, Uddipta Chora, Morning Club, Nature's Banyapran, Bedeti and Nachbar Banik Santha etc have raised issues ranging from education to health, from law and order to financial services, from forest to handloom etc in a letter written and sent to the Chief Minister of Assam recently. The organizations opine that Bedeti needs an undergraduate college having Arts and Commerce streams for which land was also allotted in the name of the college, but no due importance was allegedly given in the signature scheme through which 10 colleges were set up in Assam including one at Balipara. Bedeti is lagging behind in the medical and health sector. They allege that though there are two 10-bedded hospitals at Bedeti and Bihmari, respectively, the people in those are often deprived of proper medical facilities. The people have demanded to upgrade the primary health centre situated at Bedeti to a 30-bedded hospital.

Arrangements should be made to set up a sub-treasury at Behali near the Behali branch of State Bank of India (SBI). An approval was made for setting up of a police out-post at Bedeti vide memorandum no. G / X / 47/2016/23 dated 04-11-2016, but the matter has not yielded any result till Monday.

Demands have been raised to provide services to the farmers by setting up an agricultural office and an agricultural center in this agriculture-centric area. The Forest Department has been drawn attention by the organizations to set up a Block Wildlife Office at Rangshali, a sub-forest office at Bihmari and also to declare Behali Reserve Forest a sanctuary. Demands have also been raised for the development of agro-cooperative sector for building a self-reliant Assam and also to set up industrial farms at Bihmari and Jamuani. The Minister of Handloom and Textile, Government of Assam has been demanded for establishment of a Silk College at Rangchali Silk Farm.

The organizations urge the government to pay heed to their demands and express the hope that the problems would be sorted out as soon as possible.
