JAGIROAD: The BJP organized a peace rally while at the same time the AASU and 30 ethnic organizations of the State organized a protest rally against the Citizenship Amendment Act at Jagiroad on Friday. While addressing the peace rally, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal accused the Congress and Maoist organizations of their anti-social activities during the CAA protest march launched by AASU and other organizations recently.

He asserted taking drastic measures against the culprits who humiliated public representatives and damaged public and private properties in the name of agitation. He however assured Constitutional safeguard of the Assamese people by the present Narendra Modi-led Government. The rally was also attended by Finance Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta, Agricultural Minister, and AGP President Atul Bora, State BJP President Ranjit Dass, Nagaon MLA Rupak Sarma, Morigaon MLA Ramakanta Deuri among others.

On the other hand, the CAA protest rally organized by AASU and other 30 organizations here was attended by veteran journalist Adip Kumar Phukan, Axom Unnati Xabha President Atanu Sarma, All Tiwa Women Association president Pratibha Deoraja, AGP Morigaon district President Dilip Mazumder, Sitaram Deuri, senior citizen Munin Borthakur among others. The leaders criticized the Sarbananda Sonowal-led State Government and Narendra Modi-led Central Government. They, however, called upon each and all to come forward and protest against the controversial Act.
