KOKRAJHAR: Bhutan, the good neighbour of India has enough experience of bitterness in the decade-long insurgency problems in Assam and Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) region as it suffered lot of problems while entering India. Now, with the latest development of peace process with the militant group NDFB (S), Bhutan has high hopes that the pain they suffered due to militancy problems in the neighbouring country will come to an end in the new era of peace and progress.

The general secretary of Bhutan-India Friendship Association (BIFA), Gelegphu Chapter Ugen Rabten in a conversation said he noticed series of positive developments in Assam since last week that there could be new accord with the factions of National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) as soon as possible. “Breaking News after Breaking News! Two responsible leaders of B. Saoraigwra faction of the NDFB recently emerged out of Myanmar border to lay down their arms and initiate peace talk with the government of India. Soon after them, the most dreaded duo G. Bidai and M Batha operating mostly from the jungles of BTC are reported to have emerged out of Barpeta in the east and Jamduar in the west and laid down arms to join the peace talk. Several cadres have also followed their leaders and came out in the open to surrender their weapons,” he said adding that the steps taken by the Government of India was praiseworthy and permanent peace will prevail in the plains of Assam and BTC region as well.

Rabten said, “Well, with such positive developments in the neighbourhood, we are more than happy and I personally extend my appreciation to the government of India and, of course, for the hard work of BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary.” He said after several decades of unrest and bloodshed for the cause of Bodoland, now they will begin to see a streak of silver line to accomplish the hopes and aspirations of Bodoland people. This peaceful way of negotiating the talks between the stakeholders will not only foster positive resolution but will bring respite to them in the Himalayas because they being the closest neighbour are almost every day moving in and out through the long stretch of highways that run through BTC, he said.

The BIFA general secretary hopes that the sacrifices of the people of Bodoland and the initiatives of the Government of India and BTC will bear the fruits of success and jointly usher in a new era of progress and happiness for Bodoland which certainly is going to have regional peace and harmony for all neighbourhoods.
